SWEEPING HEALTH CARE BILL TO COVER ALL KIDS PASSES HOUSE

Assistant Majority Leader Tina Liebling issued the following statement in response to passage of the House Omnibus Health and Human Services Finance Bill. The bill passed on a vote of 86 to 45.

"We can all agree that Minnesota children should have access to quality medical care, not only when they're ill, but to keep them strong and healthy. This bill moves us a long way toward that goal."

"In addition to ensuring health coverage for all of Minnesota's children by 2011, the bill also institutes reforms to address the burden of rising health care costs for everyone. For a decade, health care cost increases have outpaced inflation and wages. Reforming our system gets us closer to sustainable universal health care coverage in Minnesota."

"The bill increases Greater Minnesota nursing home funding levels to the same level as metro area nursing homes, a tremendous improvement for Olmsted County. It also reforms the way nursing homes are reimbursed by the state. These changes will benefit elderly and disabled Minnesotans in Olmsted County and all across our state."

"This is truly a comprehensive health care bill that helps all Minnesotans: children, families, senior citizens, veterans, people with disabilities and those suffering mental illness."
