Rep. Tina Liebling Responds to State of the State Address

ST. PAUL – Stating that she was pleased with the priorities outlined by the Governor in today's State of the State address, Rep. Tina Liebling restated her commitment to the shared goals of better education, health care, energy and government.
"I'm encouraged by goals the Governor outlined today," said Liebling. "While our approaches may differ, I look forward to working together to find common ground to move Minnesota forward."
Liebling was especially pleased by the Governor's commitment to education, including tuition relief for college students.
"We can't keep saddling our college students with debt loads that are increasing faster than the cost of living," Liebling said.
Liebling predicted that proposals to benefit veterans and military families, increased support for early childhood programs, and passage of a renewable energy standard would find a friendly reception during the session.
"I see plenty of opportunity to work together to offer more opportunities for our littlest learners, to support our veterans and to move Minnesota towards increased energy independence," said Liebling.
Liebling did express disappointment that the Governor did not offer more property tax relief.
"Providing permanent property tax relief is a top priority," Liebling said. "Placing a cap on local property taxes ties the hands of city, county and school officials and erodes local control. I'd like to see a combination of aid increases to cities and counties, more school aid and levy support and direct credits and refunds to homeowners to counter increases of the past few years."
