Rep. Tina Liebling of Rochester has introduced a bill in the Minnesota House to create a sales tax exemption for construction of the Rochester Youth Hockey Arena at the Graham Arena Complex.
"This bill would grant Olmsted County a sales tax exemption on the cost of construction materials and equipment used to build the hockey arena," explained Rep. Liebling. "It's not fair to ask property taxpayers and Rochester Youth Hockey Association donors to pay the state for the privilege of investing in our local infrastructure."
The sales tax exemption, if approved, is likely to save approximately $170,000 on the cost of constructing the arena.
"This arena is going to be great not only for the Rochester kids who play hockey but as a draw for regional visitors who will come to Rochester for youth hockey tournaments," Rep. Liebling said. "I look forward to working with other Rochester legislators get this exemption passed."
State Senator Sheila Kiscaden will carry the companion bill in the Senate.
