Rep. Melissa Hortman (DFL-Brooklyn Park) has been appointed to the bipartisan Economic Status of Women Council by Speaker of the House Steve Sviggum.
Rep. Hortman is serving in her first term as a member of the State House of Representatives, representing Brooklyn Park and Coon Rapids. Representatives Karen Klinzing, Connie Ruth, Neil Peterson and Katie Sieben join her on this council.
"I am honored to be appointed to this bipartisan council," said Rep. Hortman. "As long as women earn less for the same work and as long as women remain under-represented in our national, state and local governments, there is an important role for this Council."
"I've enjoyed mentoring young women in my law practice, at our family business and as a Girl Scout leader," said Rep. Hortman. "I look forward to advocating for policies that will improve the economic status of women in Minnesota."
"I believe these members are prepared to make a significant contribution to the work of this council," said Speaker Sviggum.
Rep. Hortman said she is looking forward to working to serving with Republicans and Democratic colleagues on the council.
