ST. PAUL – State Representative Rod Hamilton (R-Mountain Lake) said he found many positives in Governor Pawlenty’s State of the State address. The Governor gave his speech in Rochester on January 18.
“I’m pleased the Governor recognizes the need to increase funding for our local classrooms, and wants to double the ethanol in gasoline sold in Minnesota,” Hamilton said.
Governor Pawlenty’s added that he wants to make Minnesota a global leader in biosciences and dedicating funds to further that effort.
“Worthington has a strong interest in bioscience funding, so the Governor’s commitment to the industry is welcome news,” Hamilton said.
Governor Pawlenty’s priorities also included making gaming in Minnesota more equitable by achieving fairness for the 85 percent of tribal members and the rest of the state who do not currently benefit from Indian casinos; doubling the ethanol in gasoline; and protecting the safety of Minnesotans by enacting new measures to deal with the meth epidemic and stronger penalties for sex offenders.
“It’s rare to agree with every proposal a governor outlines in his State of the State address, but I think Governor Pawlenty is on the right track and I will most likely support a good share of his initiatives,” Hamilton said.
