ST. PAUL – What’s the best way for Minnesota’s government to eliminate its economic problems? State Representative Rod Hamilton (R-Mountain Lake) said the best place to start is to find ways to encourage existing rural Minnesota businesses to grow.
“Not long ago, I attended an agriculture and rural economies seminar, and the guest speaker said the investment return is greater by working with existing state companies as opposed to trying to lure new businesses to the state. It does make sense, because if we can focus on the businesses we have, and work with them and help them grow, we will get the biggest bang for our buck.”
Hamilton points to recent news from Jackson as an example. On January 27, AGCO announced that it would break ground in mid-May on a 75,000-square-foot addition to its tractor assembly building. The expansion is expected to create more than 100 new jobs.
Hamilton said the best way for Minnesota’s economy to turn around will be to expand our job opportunities and to maintain an educated workforce.
“In order to maintain the programs that help our most vulnerable, we have to have people working in order to pay for them,” Hamilton said.
