ST. PAUL – State Representative Rod Hamilton (R-Mountain Lake) said he was pleased the Minnesota House approved an $886 million bonding bill that had been negotiated between the House, Senate and Governor’s office.
“This bill enables some very necessary construction projects to begin across the state and in our district,” Hamilton said. “T
Some highlights of the bill include $40 million for local bridge replacement and $10 million for road improvement grants; more than $320 million for higher education projects at the University of Minnesota and Minnesota State Colleges and University campuses, which includes roof improvement funding at the Minnesota West Community and Technical College in Jackson; $2.5 million to the City of Worthington for bioscience development; and $2 million for the Lewis and Clark Rural Water Systems project. The bill also includes a feasibility study to determine if biodiesel could be used to fuel the Northstar commuter rail project, a measure that was proposed by Rep. Hamilton.
“District 22B fared very well with this bonding bill, as there appears to be something of interest for everyone,” Hamilton said. “All of these projects were important to the district, and I was happy we were able to include all of them in the final compromise.”
Hamilton said Governor Pawlenty recently signed the bill into law.
