REP. HAMILTON: RURAL MINNESOTA HOSPITALS MUST BE PROTECTED THROUGHOUT STATE BUDGET REDUCTION PROCESS

ST. PAUL – State Representative Rod Hamilton (R-Mountain Lake) said a tour of area hospitals reinforced his belief that nursing homes and medical facilities are vital to the long-term health of their rural communities.

“If you’ve ever doubted the importance of a hospital to a town, all you need to do is visit the facility and experience the difference the staff is making in people’s lives,” Hamilton said.

Hamilton recently toured the hospitals in Windom and Jackson before holding town meetings in the area. After speaking with physicians and hospital board members, Hamilton said he understands the concerns rural facilities are facing as they try to make improvements.

“Much like state government, our rural hospitals are facing budget challenges,” Hamilton said. “My pledge is to work with them and do what we can to keep them running efficiently so they can continue to provide essential services.”

Hamilton was also pleased his town meetings were well attended.

“The debates were healthy and it was good to hear from the public,” Hamilton said. “Now it’s time to set our priorities at the State Capitol and begin solving our budget deficit.”
