ST. PAUL - State Representative Rod Hamilton (R-Mountain Lake) is authoring legislation that would further promote and publicize E85 fuels in Minnesota. Hamilton’s bill would require the Department of Transportation to place E85 signs along state highways if a nearby service station sells the fuel. E85 fuel is comprised of 85% ethanol.
“Many travelers who drive flexible fuel cars would appreciate knowing when E85 is available,” Hamilton said. “The blue E85 highway signs will give them that opportunity.”
Hamilton said the bill allows the E85 retailer to choose to have the sign installed. If the business wants the advertising, MnDOT would place the E85 sign along the highway.
“The ethanol industry is vital to southwestern Minnesota,” Hamilton said. “This is just one more way to increase awareness of E85, and encourage the usage of a homegrown, renewable fuel.”
Hamilton’s bill was approved in the House Transportation Policy Committee and the bill now moves on to the House Transportation Finance Committee for further debate.
