NEWS RELEASE

STATE REPRESENTATIVE ROD HAMILTON TO WORK WITH OTHER MIDWESTERN LEADERS ON AGRICULTURE POLICY

ST. PAUL – State Representative Rod Hamilton (R-Mountain Lake) has been appointed to a regional committee of legislators that will examine key agriculture and natural resource issues while pursuing opportunities for interstate cooperation, policy making and information sharing.

As a member of the bipartisan Midwestern Legislative Conference Agriculture and Natural Resource Committee of The Council of State Governments, Representative Hamilton will be working with leaders from 11 states and three Canadian provinces.

In the past, the committee has focused on issues such as regional renewable energy policy, the 2007 Farm Bill reauthorization, and livestock siting and regulations.

The committee is seeking ways to further regional biofuel and biobased product cooperation as well as focusing on funding for agriculture research and transportation issues.

The Council of State Governments (CSG) is the premier multi-branch organization forecasting policy trends for the community of states, commonwealths and territories on a national and regional basis. CSG alerts state elected and appointed officials in all three branches of government to emerging social, economic, and political trends; offers innovative state policy responses to rapidly changing conditions; and advocates multi-state problem solving to maximize resources and competitiveness.
