ST. PAUL - State Representative Rod Hamilton (R-Mountain Lake) was a member of the joint House/Senate Conference Committee that helped craft a compromise omnibus funding bill for agriculture and veterans priorities. The bill was approved by a vote of 130 to 1.
“We have created a plan that funds our agriculture priorities and new energy sources, while rewarding the service of past and current military personnel,” Hamilton said.
Specifically, the $169 million omnibus finance bill contains more than $30 million for ethanol producer payments; $6 million for the Agricultural Utilization Research Institute (AURI); $75 million for the Department of Agriculture; and $65 million for veterans and military initiatives. It also expands loan eligibility for the Rural Finance Authority, and dedicates funding for pest management, bio-energy and the surveillance and eradication of Bovine Tuberculosis.
“I enjoyed working on this conference committee and playing a role in improving our rural economy,” Hamilton said.
Hamilton expects Governor Pawlenty to sign the agriculture and veterans legislation.
