ST. PAUL – Area nursing homes may get a long overdue reimbursement rate increase if a recent action taken by State Representative Rod Hamilton (R-Mountain Lake) makes its way to the House floor.
Recently House Democrats were putting together a comprehensive long-term care bill in a House health committee. During this discussion Rep. Hamilton was able to amend his bill, House File 427, onto the omnibus package, as it increases reimbursement rates to facilities currently receiving the lowest payment amounts.
“Reimbursement rates can vary around the state by hundreds of dollars, with the rural nursing homes usually getting the short end of the stick,” Hamilton said.
Hamilton’s action would bring up to a six percent increase to the reimbursement rate and bring immediate help to Greater Minnesota’s long-term care facilities.
“This is simply an attempt to level the playing field,” Hamilton said. “It’s very obvious the current system is flawed, so when the opportunity presents itself to make this needed change I’m going to take advantage of it.”
Hamilton noted that the long-term care omnibus bill will make several more committee stops before it reaches the House floor for a vote.
