ST. PAUL – In an effort to further position southwestern Minnesota as a recognized biosciences leader, State Representative Rod Hamilton (R-Mountain Lake) is sponsoring a bill that would create a biosciences testing and training facility in Worthington.
“Two years ago we worked extremely hard to secure funding for the bioscience park in the Worthington area,” Hamilton said. “This would simply build upon that proposal.”
Under Hamilton’s bill, the Worthington Regional Economic Development Cooperative would secure $2 million for an agriculture-based bioscience testing center. Specifically, funding would be used to provide training and testing for incubator firms developing new agricultural processes and products.
Hamilton noted that the funding would be used in conjunction with area businesses and with the Minnesota West Community and Technical College in Worthington.
“It’s a total group effort with everyone collaborating to help offer diagnostic work, training and education,” Hamilton said. “We’re all looking to expand our bioscience opportunities in rural Minnesota.”
