ST. PAUL – Stressing a need to improve the way state government operates, Governor Tim Pawlenty shared his vision for Minnesota in his annual State of the State Address. The speech outlined several specific initiatives, many of which are supported by State Representative Rod Hamilton (R-Mountain Lake).
“I’m pleased Governor Pawlenty addressed the health care crisis by stressing private sector solutions as opposed to just increasing the size of state government,” Hamilton said. “The system is broken, so I’m glad Governor Pawlenty is on board.”
Besides health care, Pawlenty also stressed better government, better energy, and better education.
“Leave our taxes alone, increase our renewable fuel output, and give our schools the resources they need,” Hamilton summarized. “Under Pawlenty’s plan, property owners would receive tax relief; our farmers would benefit from the expanded use of ethanol, wind and biodiesel; and our schools would be guaranteed a four percent raise in the next two years.
“Some of his proposals I strongly agree with, and there are some I believe could use some fine tuning,” Hamilton said. “Overall though, I feel he’s on the right track and has a positive outlook for the State of Minnesota.”
