ST. PAUL – State Representative Rod Hamilton (R-Jackson) joined the majority in the Minnesota House in approving capital investment legislation – often referred to as the bonding bill – that helps fund construction projects throughout Minnesota.
“I thought the House bonding bill did a good job of prioritizing projects throughout Minnesota, and not just in the Metro Area,” Hamilton said. “Nearly everyone in the state could find something worthwhile in this bill.
Hamilton said the $949 million bonding bill addresses five key legislative priorities - higher education, transportation, public safety, economic development and the environment.
Locally, Hamilton noted that the Lewis and Clark Rural Water System would receive $3.2 million in state funding under the proposal; $5 million would be dedicated to the biosciences in rural Minnesota; and $70,000 would be allocated for the Jackson range lead abatement project.
“These are all worthwhile projects, and I am pleased the House Capital Investment Committee recognized their importance,” Hamilton said.
Hamilton added that the Senate has approved its version of the bonding bill, and that a joint House/Senate conference committee will soon meet to rectify their differences and create a compromise proposal.
