NEWS RELEASE

REP. HAMILTON SWORN INTO OFFICE, RECEIVES COMMITTEE ASSIGNMENTS

ST. PAUL – State Representative Rod Hamilton (R-Mountain Lake) was sworn in today as the 2005 Legislative Session convened at the Minnesota State Capitol. Rep. Hamilton represents House District 22B, which includes Jackson, Cottonwood and Nobles counties.

“I am honored that I have been given the opportunity to serve as a member of the House of Representatives,” said Rep. Hamilton. “It is a great privilege that I take very seriously.”

Hamilton was recently appointed to the House Agriculture and Rural Development Committee, as well as the Ways and Means Committee, which debates all major pieces of legislation before being sent to the House floor. He will also serve on the Commerce and Financial Institutions Committee, and the Technology, Bio-Science and Medical Products Division.

“I am very pleased with my committee appointments,” Hamilton said. “With my agricultural background, securing a spot on the agriculture committee was one of my top priorities. Now I can look forward to crafting legislation that will benefit all farmers and all of rural Minnesota.”

“I am also honored that Speaker Sviggum selected me to serve on the Ways and Means Committee,” Hamilton continued. “Ways and Means is the most powerful committee in the Minnesota House, and it is rare that a first year lawmaker is chosen to serve there. This is a great opportunity, and I look forward to representing my constituents on these committees.”

Hamilton recently moved into his legislative office, which is located in the State Office Building adjacent to the Capitol, and encourages area residents to visit.

“My constituents are always welcome to stop by my new office if they are visiting the area,” Hamilton said. “Also, if anyone has any questions or concerns, they should not hesitate to call me.”

Hamilton can be reached by phone at 651-296-5373. He can also be contacted via e-mail at rep.rod.hamilton@house.mn, or via U.S. Mail at 423 State Office Building, 100 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., St. Paul, MN 55155.
