ST. PAUL – State Reps. Pat Garofalo (R-Farmington) and Steve Simon (DFL-St. Louis Park) are just two of a new crop of 26 freshmen legislators in the Minnesota House of Representatives. Elected on the heels of partisanship that stalemated the 2004 legislative session, Garofalo, Simon and other freshmen plan to break bread on Wednesday at a St. Paul bistro to discuss business and socialize.
“We feel we can get more done in the legislature if we know each other better,” Garofalo said. “It’s a great opportunity to talk about our families and share some of the concerns that brought us to the House.”
Rep. Simon added, “This event will help the freshman class build the relationships that are necessary for meaningful, bipartisan work.”
Almost all the members of the freshmen class have stated their intent to attend. They will meet at DeGidio’s Restaurant & Bar on West 7th Street in St. Paul on Wednesday, January 19 at 4:45 p.m.
In addition, freshmen members have been advised that two special guests will b attending the event, to commend them on their efforts of cooperation.
