ST. PAUL State Rep. Pat Garofalo (R-Farmington) said he was pleased to find that some important area projects were included in the $885 million bonding bill that will go before House members for a vote as early as Monday.
The legislation includes $10 million for the Cedar Avenue Bus Rapid Transit project. The legislation, co-authored by Garofalo, would grant authority to the Dakota County Regional Railroad Authority to plan, construct and run the bus service along the Cedar Avenue corridor.
This is big for commuters in the area, said Garofalo, member of the House Capital Investment Committee. Im glad the project was included even as we funded more high profile projects like the NorthStar commuter rail.
In addition, up to $70,000 has been approved as part of Metro Greenways funding to help fund a conservation easement near the Chub Lake Natural Area in Dakota County. With the easement, it will protect a forested parcel with Chub Lake shoreline adjacent to the Wildlife Management Area.
Garofalo praised Gov. Tim Pawlenty for helping to broker a resolution among House and Senate leaders on the $944 million capital projects bill. The package is likely to be approved by the Legislature and could be signed by the Governor by the end of next week. With its passage, bids could be let on some projects soon, spurring job creation as early as this summer.
