ST PAUL – A provision in the Omnibus Transportation Policy bill would establish a Municipal Deputy Registrar’s office in Farmington to provide area residents with better motor vehicle services, announced State Representative Pat Garofalo [R-Farmington]. The provision, which is included in the Transportation Policy bill Conference Committee report which is awaiting action by the House of Representatives, will authorize the city of Farmington to “operate a new full-service Office of the Deputy Registrar with full authority to function as a registration and motor vehicle tax collection bureau.”
“Sometimes, the ways we can make government run more smoothly get lost in the high-level political shuffling,” said Rep. Garofalo. “Opening a new registrar’s office in Farmington isn’t going to balance the budget deficit or improve our K-12 education system. But it is an example of why I chose public service: to improve the delivery of government services and to make life a little easier for people in my district.”
The Omnibus Transportation Policy bill Conference Committee report is awaiting action by the House and Senate. From there it will be sent to Governor Pawlenty for his signature or veto.
