NEWS RELEASE

GAROFALO ANNOUNCES 2009-2010 COMMITTEE ASSIGNMENTS: Will serve as lead Republican on K-12 Finance committee

ST PAUL – Tuesday was the first day of 2009-2010 legislative session, and as State Representative Pat Garofalo [R-Farmington] was sworn in for his third term he announced his committee assignments for the biennium; the highlight of which will be Garofalo’s role as the lead Republican on the K-12 Finance committee.
“Education spending accounts for 40% of the state’s biennial budget. As the Republican lead on the K-12 Finance committee it will be my job to make sure that not only do my colleagues have a voice when it comes to education issues, but that Minnesota taxpayers get the best value for their money,” said Garofalo. “I also hope to be able to introduce a number of education reforms that will not only benefit the Legislature as we look for a solution to our current budget deficit, but will make our education system stronger while improving outcomes for our children.”
In addition serving on the K-12 Finance committee, Rep. Garofalo will also sit on the Taxes and Property Tax Division and the Finance committees.
“Without a doubt, there’s a lot of hard work that needs to be done this session. Legislators are going to have to make some tough choices but that’s what we were elected to do,” said Garofalo. House Republicans will certainly be ready to assist in any way we can, but by no means are we going to sit around and wait quietly for our turn to speak.”
