ST. PAUL – Dakota County residents have a chance to weigh in on issues ranging from how to handle the state’s $2 billion budget surplus to a potential statewide smoking ban, and it should be arriving in their mailbox soon.
State Representative Pat Garofalo (R-Farmington) sent out the survey to area residents to gain their opinion on many of the issues that will come up during the 2007 legislative session. Garofalo said that by now the top priorities for the session have risen to the forefront and it’s time for the average citizen to weigh in.
“It’s important for me to know what people are thinking on issues,” Garofalo said. “It helps me do my job and establish relationships with people who take time to share their thoughts.” Other questions address transportation, education and other issues.
Garofalo added that anyone who does not receive a survey should call his office at 651-296-1069 or 1-888-667-3337, or send an email to rep.pat.garofalo@house.mn to request one. With the number of new residents moving into the area, he emphasized those who don’t find a copy in their mailbox should contact him right away.
“I want new neighbors to know their state representative and know that I am here for what they need,” Garofalo said.
“People have been great with their participation in the past and I encourage them to continue to share their input.”
