REP. FRITZ ENCOURAGES HEALTH CARE STUDENTS TO APPLY FOR LOAN FORGIVENESS

State Representative Patti Fritz (DFL-Faribault) is encouraging health care students or health profession residents to apply for state and federal loan forgiveness and repayment programs. Both programs offer eligible candidates in the health care field the chance to reduce their school loan debt.
"I've worked in the health care field for my entire career, and I know how expensive it is to get a degree or a certificate," said Fritz. "These programs offer a chance for some of these deserving individuals to reduce their debt."
The Minnesota State Loan Forgiveness Program applications are due December 1, 2005. Applications and information are available online at www.health.state.mn.us/divs/chs/loan.htm or contact Karen Welter at (651) 282-6302 or at karen.welter@health.state.mn.us.
The Federal/State Loan Repayment Program is available for licensed providers practicing in health professional shortage areas. Information, candidate applications and site applications are available on the Minnesota Department of Health web site at the above address, and the Federal address is http://nhsc.bhpr.hrsa.gov/.
For more information on either program, you can contact Deb Jahnke at debra.jahnke@health.state.mn.us or (651) 282-6334.
"I hope that everyone who thinks they may be eligible for either of these programs will act quickly," said Fritz. "These workers take care of our most vulnerable friends and family members, and they deserve a break."
