(St. Paul, MN) – Today Governor Mark Dayton released a list of projects he would like to see included in this session’s bonding bill. A result of last year’s budget negotiations, there is $775 million already accounted for in the current budget to finance bonding legislation and the recommendations given by Governor Dayton are expected to create 21,700 jobs in Minnesota. Of the projects recommended, Faribault’s South Central College and the State Academies for the Deaf and Blind are included.
The Governor recommends that the Minnesota State Academies for the Deaf and Blind receive $7.6 million to preserve and renovate buildings on campus and to construct a new technology center for students. $13.3 million is recommended for South Central College in order to renovate and expand the Faribault campus.
Regarding the inclusion of these projects in the Governor’s recommendations, State Representative Patti Fritz released the following statement:
“I am so enthused and energized by the inclusion of these local projects in Governor Dayton’s bonding recommendations. These are shovel-ready projects capable of creating jobs in our community immediately.
“What’s more, is these institutions are central to our communities here in Southern Minnesota. As a graduate of South Central College, I know how vital education is in preparing our young adults to compete in our competitive economy. Investing money in this project will create construction jobs immediately, while its completion will ensure we have an educated workforce in the future.
“Supporting bonding legislation such as this is a no brainer. I look forward to working bi-partisanly with my colleagues here at home and in St. Paul in putting folks in our community back to work again."
