Dear Editor,
This session, our state is facing the monumental task of balancing the state budget to reconcile a $4.8 billion deficit. This clearly will not be easy. We must examine our budget to make sure we are spending state revenues wisely, recommending cuts in areas that will do the least harm, and re-allocating funds where they can do the most good. We will also strive to make the best use of any federal dollars that come into our state through the federal economic recovery package.
I strongly encourage the residents of our region to get involved. The House has created a webpage, http://www.house.mn/, that you can visit to share your ideas about how our state can best address the challenges before us. We are also planning to hold some community meetings across the state to explain in detail what choices are being considered and to get feedback from citizens. Please consider attending this meeting if one is scheduled in the area.
Throughout this process, my top priority will be to protect our most vulnerable citizens – our children, seniors and hard working families. This is an unprecedented problem for our state and we must work toward responsible resolutions in addressing it.
Sincerely,
Representative Patti Fritz
