HOUSE EDUCATION COMMITTEES COMING TO FARIBAULT

St. Paul, MN – State Rep. Patti Fritz State Representative will welcome the House K-12 Education
Committees to Faribault on Monday, September 15th, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Public testimony will be taken about the challenges Minnesota schools are facing, as well as the successes that have resulted in student achievement.
“While we have made some progress over the last two years in getting our schools back on track after deep budget cuts, there is more work to do," said Fritz. “The members of the committees will be sharing with the public their plans for significant education reform that will be taken up again during the next legislative session.
I encourage anyone who is interested in the future of our schools to attend this public hearing.”
Many are calling the education reform plan the “New Minnesota Miracle”. The innovative plan would simplify and increase state public school funding, address funding disparities between school districts, reduce property taxes, and lay a foundation for every student to succeed when they graduate from high school. Designed to be scaled in over six years, the plan would boost the state's share of school funding while simultaneously reducing property taxes by $600 million.
“It's clear the current model of funding schools in Minnesota is not working for today's schools," said Fritz. “By gathering public input about what is currently working and where there is room for improvement, we can hit the ground running next year. We need to move quickly to implement a funding model that ensures every student will be prepared for success upon high school graduation.”
