HIGHWAY 21 CONSTRUCTION TO BEGIN SOON

State Representative Patti Fritz was pleased to learn last week that despite some difficulties that stalled construction plans for Highway 21, an agreement has been reached between the contractor, B.H. Heselton, and the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) that will allow this project to begin after nearly two months of delay.
Rep. Fritz said she was contacted by numerous constituents who were concerned about the dangerous conditions on Highway 21, especially following the recent accident that claimed the life of young father Mark Davis. She also learned that as a result of the rising cost of asphalt as well as limited supply, the contract price would be difficult to meet. Rep. Fritz contacted MnDOT Commissioner Tom Sorel to discuss potential solutions, and spoke with MnDOT Deputy Commissioner Khani Sahebjam to explain why the Highway 21 project was in dire need of attention and to urge MnDOT to meet with the contractor to renegotiate the contract. She learned this week that an agreement has been reached.
"The rising cost of asphalt and the dwindling availability is creating problems all across the state," said Fritz. "However, Minnesotans deserve to drive on safe roads and bridges, and I'm very pleased MnDOT understood that we can't afford to wait any longer."
Work on Highway 21 is expected to begin no later than August 25th.
"Our local efforts certainly paid off in this case, and I want to thank not only MnDOT for renegotiating this contract, but also the constituents who contacted me," said Fritz. "This is solid proof that when we work together, we can get good things done for our district."
