LOCAL PROJECTS INCLUDED IN HOUSE BONDING BILL

St. Paul, MN - The 2008 Capital Investment Bill passed on the floor of the Minnesota House today, approving just over $950 million for state and regional work projects. Several area projects were included in the final package, including more funding for the Minnesota Correctional Facility in Faribault, and South Central Technical College.
The bonding bill projects cover a wide array of areas, including higher education, pubic safety, wastewater infrastructure and local transportation projects. This legislation will create as many as 10 thousand jobs.
The Faribault prison will receive $16 million for Phase III of the planned expansion. Another request for $37 million will be part of the next cycle of bonding.
South Central College in Faribault is slated to receive $400 thousand for classroom renovation and addition design, and Frechette Hall at the State Academies for the Deaf will receive $100 thousand. The Mill Towns trail will receive a portion of $13.5 million designated for state trail acquisition and development, and Fritz's proposal to mark unidentified graves at state hospitals will receive another $135 thousand.
In addition, the cities of Medford and Ellendale are listed on the wastewater priority list.
"Since I came to office in 2005, the bonding bill has been very good for our communities," said Fritz. "I am pleased to see that the hard work of folks in our area is recognized in this bill, and I am optimistic these provisions will remain in the final bill that the Governor signs into law."
