Bonding Bill two steps away from law

Rep. Patti Fritz (DFL-Faribault) breathed a sigh of relief on Wednesday when a vote on the House floor moved the long-awaited bonding bill one step closer to finality.
"All that's left now is the vote in the Senate and the Governor's signature," said Fritz. "Then we can relax and move forward."
The vote was first expected to be called for at noon today. After two delays and a challenge to one section of language in bill, the vote was taken and the bill passed.
Small changes were made to the bill in the last few days of negotiations. Funding for Faribault projects, however, remained the same.
"Even though our projects have been in this from the start, there was the chance they could have been changed many times along the way," said Fritz. "Only two more steps to take."
The Faribault prison project is still scheduled to receive almost $85 million, South Central Technical College Applied Lab, which is shared by the Faribault campus, is designated for over $5 million and the Minnesota State Academies Asset Preservation was designated for $4.2 million. Mill Towns Trail was funded for $300,000 and the SE part of the state is eligible to share in $23 million in CRRP funds.
The total package is for $945 million. The project list includes funding for transportation projects, environmental projects and higher education, to name a few.
It is expected that the Senate could vote on this bill as early as tonight, after which it will move to the Governor for his signature.
"Let's get these projects going and put people to work," said Fritz. " We all need this good news."
