St. Paul, MN – State Rep. Patti Fritz said she was glad to learn today that funding for Phase III of the Minnesota Correctional Facility in Faribault was included in the Governor's proposed bonding bill.
Just over $16 million was budgeted for the construction of an intake/watch security center building and demolition of two existing housing units.
"I'm extremely pleased funding for our ongoing improvements at the Faribault prison were included in this bill," said Rep. Fritz. "This will not only increase the facility's security and housing capabilities, it will also create much needed jobs in our area."
Rep. Fritz is carrying the bonding proposal for the prison in the House, and it is expected to be included in the Senate bonding bill, as well, making final approval for this project highly probable.
The total bonding bill called for $965 million in general obligation bonding, including a record amount for transportation. Over $200 million was included for local bridges alone, which will replace more than 600 across the state.
"When the Governor vetoed the bonding bill last session, hundreds of projects across the state came to a standstill and thousands of jobs were lost," said Fritz. "I'm very optimistic we will reach agreement on a comprehensive and responsible bill this session that will get our state moving forward again."
