Rep. Patti Fritz hails passage of state bonding bill

Rep. Patti Fritz (DFL-Faribault) welcomed the news on Wednesday that the Conference Committee and the Governor reached an agreement on the state bonding bill.
"This is a wonderful day for our area," said Fritz. "I'm so pleased to have played a part in bringing these much needed jobs and improvements to our communities."
Since first coming into office this term, Fritz has worked vigorously for full inclusion of area projects in the final jobs bill package. The Faribault prison was given full funding of almost $85 million, South Central Technical College Applied Lab, which is shared by the Faribault campus, received over $5 million and the Minnesota State Academies Asset Preservation was designated for $4.2 million. Mill Towns Trail was funded for $300,000 and the SE part of the state is eligible to share in $23 million in CRRP funds.
"Many of us first-term legislators were sent here because people are tired of partisan politics and wanted more effective government. The passage of this bill shows that we are succeeding in meeting that expectation." said Fritz.
After the failure to reach agreement on a bonding bill last session, the House and the Senate worked quickly this session to pass their versions of the jobs bill, moving it to Conference Committee in late February where it appeared to be stalled. The news of its passage today is critical to ensure that full benefit can be made of the start of spring construction season. It is anticipated that as many as 10,000 new jobs could be created.
"At last, state government is doing its part to invest in our communities," said Fritz. "The bipartisan efforts of everyone who worked to get the job done have paid off."
