FRITZ VOTES TO LIFT SPEARING BAN ON FRENCH LAKE

St. Paul, MN - State Representative Patti Fritz (DFL - Faribault) supported an amendment today that will lift the spearing ban on French Lake in Rice County.
"My constituents have asked that the spearing ban on northern pike be lifted and I'm happy to support that," said Fritz. "I'm pleased my colleagues in the House agree and supported this amendment."
According to Fritz, requests have been made to the DNR for this ban to be lifted but as of yet, they have not acted. She also said that according to the State Fisheries, there is no biological reason not to do this.
The amendment passed on a voice vote and was added to the House Fish and Game Bill, which passed with broad bipartisan support. This legislation provides clarity and direction on a variety of hunting and fishing issues, including designations on deer tags, obtaining replacement deer licenses, the removal of fish houses and strengthening the language regarding allowing youth under the age of 16 to unlawfully possess a firearm.
