Rep. Patti Fritz (DFL-Faribault) commended the bipartisan support shown in the House on Tuesday in the passing of the bonding bill.
"I knew that if we worked together we could get this passed," said Fritz. "We are very fortunate to have over $90 million in project funding included in this bill for our community."
The Faribault prison was given full funding of almost $85 million, the South Central Technical College Applied Lab, which is shared by the Faribault campus, received almost $5 million, and the Minnesota State Academies Asset Preservation received partial funding in the amount of $4.2 million.
The House's $817 million capital improvements bill was approved 121 to 12, mirroring Gov. Tim Pawlenty's $816 million plan. The Senate's proposal is for $1 billion proposal. Some of the components of the bill included $244 million for the University and state colleges, $118 million for environmental projects, $106 million for prisons, $115 million for jobs and economic development and $68.5 million for local roads and bridges.
"This vote shows that the legislators are listening to the voters," said Fritz. "They want us to get the job done and we are committed to doing that."
