Rep. Patti Fritz (DFL-Faribault) welcomed the news on Tuesday that the Governor has included $28 million in funding for the Correctional Facility in Faribault as part of his Human Services bonding priorities.
"This proposal is a continuation of the work we started last session, when we were awarded almost $85 million for the prison," said Fritz. "I'm very pleased to see that the work will continue, adding beds and making much needed safety improvements to the facility."
The proposal will allow for construction of a new K-unit, renovation of an existing living unit into a long-term nursing care unit, infrastructure updates and the demolition of outdated housing units. If passed, phase 2 will add an additional 181 beds.
"I am very encouraged by this proposal and will again work hard to get this funding included in the next bonding bill," said Fritz. "This will build on the job and economic growth in our area that we have waited a long time for, as well as provide a valuable service for our state."
