ST. PAUL--As part of his efforts to create bipartisan health care reform solutions, Representative Matt Dean (R, District 52B-Stillwater) is sending out his 2009 FairCare Health Care Survey. "On an issue as personal as health care, it is critical that citizens are able to provide input and make their voices heard. The FairCare survey provides a way for people to communicate their attitudes and preferences on health care reform," said Representative Dean.
The 2008 FairCare survey suggested that individuals had a high level of satisfaction with health care and insurance (86% of respondents were "very satisfied" or "satisfied" with their health insurance) but that the rising cost of health care was a prominent concern--46% responded that rising costs had a major impact on family budget choices. The 2008 survey also showed that while citizens want reforms to lower health care costs, they desire consumer and market-driven solutions that preserve choice. Only 12% supported expanding publicly subsidized health care to cover more people, and only 18% supported a government-run single payer system.
In addition to questions on satisfaction and cost control, the 2009 survey takes into account many of the points in the current health care debate, including whether insurance companies should be able to reject applicants based on pre-existing health conditions, and if a government-run program should be able to compete within the private market.
As the Republican Lead on the House Health and Human Services Finance Committee, the FairCare survey provides Rep. Dean another tool in the creation of common-sense health care solutions. "Our citizens deserve health care that is affordable, accessible, and of the highest quality. I’m looking forward to hearing from citizens and collaborating with lawmakers on both sides to develop innovative, fair, and focused health care solutions."
