Dean to Congress: "Enroll your own family, or vote NO on ‘Public Option’ Health Care."

ST. PAUL--State Representative Matt Dean [R-Dellwood] is sending a letter to the Minnesota Congressional delegation asking that they reject the proposals for a nationalized health care system currently before Congress. Dean also asks that any "public option" government-run healthcare proposal become the policy that covers Congress and their families.

While recognizing the need for reform, Dean says that efforts towards change must work with the private market, as well as respect states’ rights. "Our private market needs reform to connect patients and providers in ways that are fair and affordable. Nationalizing private health insurance will hurt Minnesotans and infringe on our state’s right to be the primary arbiter of healthcare insurance."

Dean also points to Minnesota’s record as an innovator in the field of health care, and is urging the Congressional delegation to continue that trend of leadership and progress. "Please help Minnesota lead the nation in healthcare reform, not follow Washington towards a new program that will make things worse for patients in Minnesota," Dean said. "We need more freedom from Washington, not less," Dean commented, noting "there is time and space for bipartisan reform."

"Democrats campaigned on a promise to deliver the same health plan Congress has. Now they are trying to force on us a plan that looks and pays like Medicare. Rather than subject themselves and their families to such a plan, they are exempting themselves from it. So we are reminding them of their promise and asking them to ‘enroll or vote NO.’"
