ST PAUL - House conservatives today called on Governor Tim Pawlenty to delay signing any more omnibus finance bills until Democrat legislative leadership establishes a hard revenue target for the 2010-2011 biennium. As of Wednesday morning, no agreement between House and Senate Democrats had been reached establishing what overall state spending will look like for the state’s next two-year budget.
“Democrat leadership is apparently willing to abrogate their responsibility to finance the operation of state government,” said Rep. Mark Buesgens (Jordan). “Continuing to send the Governor finance bills - with no prior agreement in place that determines what the legislature has available to spend - is silly, reckless and a waste of a lot of peoples’ time,” added Rep. Matt Dean (Stillwater).
Rep. Paul Kohls (Victoria) added, “Governor Pawlenty should take this opportunity to put a stop to the Democrat’s petty political games and send a clear message to House and Senate leaders that he will not sign any more finance bills until there is agreement on the amount of revenue available and where that revenue is coming from.”
