SAINT PAUL – State Representative Matt Dean received recognition from the Minnesota School Boards Association for his strong stance against statewide mandatory health insurance. The “Advocate for Local Educational Solutions” award recognizes Dean’s opposition to mandates.
“Each school district has its own unique needs,” Dean explained. “A statewide mandate is ineffective and prevents each community from implementing the solutions that work best for its own schools and teachers.”
Dean surveyed teachers in local schools to get feedback. The response was immediate and overwhelming. “This was a bad deal for teachers who have done a good job of controlling health care costs,” Dean said. “Sometimes the large education unions who pushed this need to do a better job of listening to their members.”
“I am honored to receive this recognition from the Minnesota School Boards Association and will continue to advocate for local control of Minnesota’s excellent schools.”
Representative Matt Dean (Dellwood) serves on four House committees: Capital Investment, Civil Law and Elections, Education Policy and Reform, and Health Policy and Finance. This is his first term in the Minnesota legislature. Representative Dean can be contacted by phone (651.296.3018) or email (rep.matt.dean@house.mn).
