PRESS RELEASE

Speaker Kurt Zellers on Tax Relief and Job Creation Act Veto

"Governor Dayton today vetoed more than 7,000 union construction jobs, a property tax freeze for every Minnesota business, property tax relief for homeowners and much more. Local Government Aid payments for 18 cities, extending the bovine TB tax credit, Angel Investment for rural Minnesota, a new Greater Minnesota Internship Program and a tax credit for hiring Minnesota veterans -- all of them gone with a callous swipe of the governor's veto pen.

This is disappointing especially for small business owners who are struggling to survive in an economy slowly making an upturn. The Tax Relief and Job Creation Act were statements as to what we see and value that is good for our state and its economic future. It was a reasonable bill that focused on tax relief, long-term economic competitiveness and job growth.

Republicans in the Minnesota Legislature remain committed on a broader agenda that benefits all of Minnesota. Governor Dayton appears to be a one issue governor with his top priority being the Vikings stadium bill. His action today is a failure for Minnesota's economy, job creators and families who will not be receiving any assistance as a result of Governor Dayton’s veto."
