REPRESENTATIVE ZELLERS ANNOUNCES SURVEY RESULTS

By State Rep. Kurt Zellers,
District 32B

Not too long ago, I had asked the residents in our area if they would share their opinions on the big issues that will be or are currently affecting our daily lives. I am excited to tell you that the response this year is the highest I have had since being elected to office! The results to the questions are listed below, but I thought you might be interested to a couple of the more timely question. I also included below the results my vote on the issue as it came up during the last legislative session.

Here are the results to a couple of questions that a lot of Minnesotans are talking about right now. I also included my votes on these issues when they came before the House of Representatives.

1. Do you support a raise in the gas tax, anywhere from 5 to 15 cents?
71% - No
29% - Yes
(I voted against a 50% increase in the gas tax, twice, and voted to support Governor Pawlenty’s veto of this gas tax increase.)

2. Do you support raising income taxes for all individuals?
90% - No
10% - Yes
(I voted against all of the $5 Billion in new taxes proposed by the Democrat controlled House of Representatives.)

3. Is $34,000,000,000 (our current state budget) enough for our state?
83% - Yes
17% - No
(I voted in favor of Governor Pawlenty’s budget that added 9.8% to our state’s budget without increasing taxes.)

4. As a resident of Hennepin County (the government entity that raises your property taxes), do you believe your taxes have been raised too much?
87% - Yes
13% - No
(Since this is a function of our local County government, as State Representative I have NO vote to increase local property taxes. If given the chance though, I would have chosen to live within our County’s means and not raised property taxes, again.)

In reading the results of the survey I believe the voters in our area will find that my voting record is a very close representation of their views and opinions. And I believe that’s my job as your State Representative, listen to the voters in our area and bring your views to the Capitol when voting. Pretty simple and straight forward and I am honored you have trusted me with this responsibility.

I want to thank all those who took the time and answered the survey and returned it to me. Please feel free to contact me any time with your thoughts or opinions on these issues or any that may be coming before the legislature. I always appreciate hearing from the voters in our area and will be better informed when it comes to voting on the important issues before the legislature.
