Ceremony to unveil commemorative Civil War stamps

ST. PAUL – Two stamps commemorating the Sesquicentennial of the Civil War will be unveiled at 12:30 p.m. Monday by the U.S. Postal Service during a public event at the Ard Godfrey House in the St. Anthony Falls Milling District.

The U.S. Postal Service launched a Civil War stamp series in 2011. A souvenir sheet of two stamp designs is being issued for each year of the war, through 2015. This year’s “Civil War: 1862” set includes stamps depicting the Battle of New Orleans and the Battle of Antietam. They are issued in sheets of 12 and will be available at the ceremony.

The event is free to the public and will take place rain or shine. The Ard Godfrey House is located at 28 University Ave. S.E., Minneapolis.

The Woman’s Club of Minneapolis is organizing the event and representatives from the Minnesota Civil War Task Force plan to attend. Call (763) 607-1150 for more information.
