ST. PAUL - State Rep. Dean Urdahl recently earned a Guardian of Small Business Award for his 2010 efforts to improve Minnesota’s business climate and help people get back to work.
“Our state’s ability to get out of this economic rut and sustain long-term stability hinges on the success of our small businesses,” said Urdahl, R-Grove City. “Growth of our small businesses will help people get back to work and put Minnesota in a more stable position. It is an honor to receive this award since helping Minnesota become a better place to create jobs remains a top priority.”
Urdahl is a member of the bipartisan Small Business Caucus, which last session led to passage several key initiatives to make Minnesota more competitive in the business world. The package includes tools to support entrepreneurs, free-up capital for small businesses, and spur new innovation in technology development and manufacturing.
Urdahl also passed legislation to help local businesses avoid layoffs by eliminating a moratorium in the state’s shared-hours program.
Mike Hickey, who issued the award on behalf of the National Federation of Independent Business, said Urdahl also was recognized for his votes in support of small business, including voting against several significant tax increases.
“Representative Urdahl is a strong supporter of small business at the Capitol and we really appreciate that,” Hickey said. “He understands the vital role small businesses play in our state’s economy and realizes how many jobs are created by small business each year.”
