A DAY TO HONOR AMERICAN WORKERS

Friends-

The American workforce is one of our greatest strengths and it’s the reason our nation is the economic leader in the world. Our workforce also is the reason we have been celebrating Labor Day since 1882, as workers across all classes are urged to spend the first Monday in September relaxing and enjoying the fruits of their labors.

Labor Day has been in place for more than 125 years, since the original parade took place in New York as a way to honor America’s workers. The holiday is a bit more casual than in the 1800s, but the point is the same: America prospers because of people who give their best effort every day at work to support their families and to uphold the quality of living we enjoy.

But the working people of this country deserve a special day off, so I hope you can take advantage of it Monday.

These have been some unsteady economic times, so it as important as ever that we help local businesses to sustain our local economy while continuing efforts to create new jobs. I recently reported some good employment news and it’s worth repeating: Minnesota employers added 10,300 jobs in July, the state’s first monthly employment gains since August 2008.

On a final note, please take a moment this Labor Day weekend to honor our military personnel who perform the ultimate job, making enormous sacrifices for us.

Sincerely,
Dean
