LINCOLN BICENTENNIAL EVENTS SCHEDULED


ST. PAUL – The Minnesota Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission has announced a list of events scheduled to observe the 200th anniversary of President Lincoln’s birth.

“This is part of our effort to observe President Lincoln’s impact on Minnesota,” said Lincoln Commission chairman Rep. Dean Urdahl, R-Grove City.

Here is the schedule of events:

• 7 p.m., Aug. 4, “Lincoln and Minnesota’s Civil War Regiment” presentation by Ed Bearss, Chief Historian Emeritus of the National Park Service and contributor to the Ken Burns series, the Civil War. (Fort Snelling Auditorium)

• 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Aug. 8-9, Civil War Weekend. (Fort Snelling)

• 1:30 and 3 p.m., Aug. 8- 9, Songs of the Civil War performed by Bob Welch. (Fort Snelling Auditorium)

• 7 p.m., Oct. 20, a panel presentation on Lincoln's impact on African Americans and Native Americans in Minnesota, moderated by Professor Hy Berman and featuring Dave Larson of Minnesota State University-Mankato, and Minneapolis schools Superintendent Bill Green. (Minnesota Historical Society History Center Auditorium)

The public is welcome to attend these events and learn more about Lincoln's impact upon Minnesota.
