State Representative Paul Thissen will speak at the AID-Children Walk and Rally at 3:15 p.m. on Sunday, September 18. Medical students at the University of Minnesota organized the walk to highlight their commitment to making sure that all kids in Minnesota have access to affordable, high quality medical care. Rep. Thissen was asked to speak at the event because of his key role in state health care policymaking. Congresswoman Betty McCollum is also scheduled to participate.
It is a great privilege to join with these committed medical students to bring further attention to such an important issue," Thissen said. We all know that a healthy start in life is essential. We can achieve where every child can see a doctor when she needs to. If we want our children to achieve their full potential, we will act now to make it happen,” he added.
Rep. Thissen is the chief author of the Children’s Health Security Act in the house. The legislation is designed to ensure that all children in Minnesota have access to quality health care regardless of the whether and where their parents work. The proposal will also save Minnesota hospitals and clinics hundreds of millions of dollars in costs each year.
