REPUBLICAN REFUSAL TO COMPROMISE, JOBS CLAIMS ARE OUTRAGEOUS Statement from Minority Leader Thissen on lack of GOP budget offer

The Republican leadership has not come up with a new idea for a balanced budget since the shutdown began. It is outrageous that in the 13 days since the shutdown began, Republicans have offered zero ideas to solve the budget gap. They have rejected offer upon offer from Governor Dayton.

The shutdown is a symptom of the Republican leadership's inability to get a fair and balanced budget enacted into law. And as opposed to dealing with the underlying disease, the Republicans’ only plan is to try to treat the symptoms. For example, they decry thousands of temporary layoffs that resulted from the government shutdown, yet they refuse to acknowledge that their all-cuts budget permanently terminates over 30,000 jobs – mostly in the private sector.

Every day should be a deadline when the state government is shut down, yet Republicans have already missed 2 deadlines and rejected at least 8 budget compromises. It's time for the Republicans to stop asking for extensions to get their work done and actually get the work done.
