Minnesota needs to engage in real reforms, not Florida failures. Florida’s seniors scored nearly the worst in the nation on the ACT, our students scored the best. Why wouldn’t we build on Minnesota’s miracles in education with further proven reforms instead of throwing money after failed changes that model Florida’s education system?
We should support real innovations that improve our children’s ability to succeed and close the achievement gap – like early childhood education, reducing class sizes, and targeted reading interventions. These are practical reforms Republicans have ignored or even outright rejected. Adopting Florida’s failures should not be at the top of Minnesota’s list of education reforms.
Minnesota students need more than failed initiatives from former governors if they are going to succeed in a 21st Century, global economy.
