GOOD THINGS CAN HAPPEN WHEN THE GOP ACTS REASONABLY Statement on Omnibus Agriculture Bill

This Agriculture bill stands as the single and only example of the good things that can happen when reason prevails in the Republican majority.

Is this bill perfect? Absolutely not. There are some difficult cuts that are going to make things more challenging for Minnesotans.

But not a single DFLer has ever denied the need to cut the state budget. In fact, we’ve been imploring this Majority to do so in a fair and genuine way that spreads responsibility across all Minnesotans for quite some time. We have a budget deficit. Part of the solution is to cut government spending.

This bill does make some tough choices. This bill does not, however, use any phony money or Enron accounting. Because of its size, this bill does not handcuff us in making smart and fair decisions in other parts of the budget.

This bill makes the kind of honest choices that we need to make across all of this budget - not slashing and burning – if we want to create a responsible and fair solution for the people of Minnesota.
