Statement: Better schools for a better Minnesota
“Our kids’ education is too important to get mired down in symbolic grudge matches with political opponents. We’ve dwelled too long on narrow ideas of “education reform" like alternative teacher licensure that are worthwhile and may help a few children, but which will not move the dial much on improving success for most Minnesota students.
Today, Governor Dayton took the opposite approach, leading the way with a broad, smart proposal that focuses on what it will take for our children to succeed in this 21st century economy -- early childhood education, high standards, a focus on literacy, and a commitment to having a great teacher in every classroom. As opposed to talking the talk of reform, the Governor and House DFLers are walking the walk – introducing new, innovative ideas that will move our state in a positive direction.
The Governor’s plan delivers on the promise of a better future for our children. We are excited to get to work on getting it enacted.”
