NEW WEBSITE LOOKS TO AVERAGE MINNSOTANS FOR HEALTHCARE SOLUTIONS

St. Paul, MN – In response to growing concerns about rising health care costs in Minnesota, State Rep. Paul Thissen, Chair of the Health and Human Services Committee, is turning to average Minnesotans for help. Thissen has created a health care website, www.healthcareformn.org, that asks for individual stories about health care challenges, provides information about the current status of health care in Minnesota and offers updates on legislative progress. The site also provides visitors with the opportunity to sign a petition calling on state leaders to enact significant health care reform.
"Over the past months, I have traveled across the state, talking to seniors, parents, business owners, farmers and care providers," said Thissen. "What I have found is that Minnesotans in every corner of the state and walk of life are struggling with the heavy burden of health care.
Whether you have health insurance or are uninsured, concerns about rising health care costs, along with the fear of what could happen if you lose your insurance or face a catastrophic illness or accident, are at the bottom of the gnawing economic security we all feel."
Thissen said he hopes to use what he learns from the stories of average Minnesotans to help craft legislation that will continue to address health care issues in ways that are practical, expedient and cost effective.
"We feel it's important that average citizens have a voice in finding the solution because they're the ones feeling the impact of rising health care costs," said Thissen. "We hope Minnesotans will share their stories about how health care challenges have impacted their lives, and in doing so, help us identify trouble areas that need to be addressed.
People are getting sicker and in some cases dying because state decision-makers have lacked the will, the energy, or the compassion to transform our health care system. The time for political maneuvering and ideology is long past; we need to act now to enact reforms that will transform Minnesota's health care system."
