ST. PAUL - Minnesota House Speaker-designate Margaret Anderson Kelliher named State Representative Paul Thissen (DFL-Minneapolis/Richfield) Monday to chair the House Health Care and Human Services Policy Committee when the Legislature reconvenes this January.
"It's a real honor to be asked to chair this committee," said Thissen. "I am excited for the chance to work with my colleagues, Governor Pawlenty, and all Minnesotans to find and implement new ways to make health care more affordable and effective."
Thissen, who was just reelected to his third term in the House, joins a group of committee chairs that represent all areas of Minnesota.
"We worked hard to craft a committee structure that will allow for increased involvement from the public and from members across the state. We wanted to make sure that all of the important policy discussions that occur in Minnesota have a home within the legislature," Kelliher said.
Thissen's committee will have jurisdiction over all health care bills that don't affect the state's budget.
